The latest news from all our areas

Hailing from the Eastern Canadian Island of Newfoundland, Rum Ragged has performed at some of the world’s premier folk, celtic and roots venues and festivals, and recorded five acclaimed, award-winning studio albums. Whilst on a wider UK tour this June, the band will perform two concerts in Dorset with Artsreach, the county’s touring arts charity.

With a reverence for their roots and a creative, contemporary edge, 2021 JUNO Award Nominees Rum Ragged have quickly become known as the finest purveyors of their musical tradition, taking a bold approach to the distinct folk music of their homeland. Boasting bouzouki, fiddle, bodhran, banjo, guitar, and button accordion, these new champions of East Coast music enliven and enlighten audiences with their signature brand of Newfoundland folk. Honest, thought-provoking, and humorous, their combination of striking vocal harmonies, staggering musicianship, and captivating storytelling gives concert-goers an unforgettable experience.

Artsreach Director, Kerry Bartlett said “I was thrilled to discover this traditional folk group whilst in Newfoundland last September, and really enjoyed the way Rum Ragged celebrate their musical heritage – we’re looking forward to sharing their music with audiences in Dorset, which should have particular relevance given the rich history between our county and this Canadian island.”

See Rum Ragged perform live at Drimpton Village Hall (07771 554601) on Thursday 6 June, and Broadmayne Village Hall (07443 659912) on Friday 7 June. Early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment! Further information and tickets are also available online at www.artsreach.co.uk
