Swanage Folk Festival 2023 returns for another year of music and dance

The Swanage Folk Festival will return on Swanage, 8th – 10th  Septemberwith a fantastic lineup of Folk Music, Morris dancing, other traditional dances and Craft Fair.

Throughout the festival the seaside town of Swanage on the beautiful Jurassic coast, will fill up with hundreds of colourful dancers and resonate to the sound of bells jingling, sticks thwacking, excellent music and crowds of people enjoying the spectacle.

For 31 years the Swanage Folk Festival has attracted music fans and dancers. This year features headline bands Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys, Kathryn Tickell & The Darkening and Merry Hell, plus many more including for free afternoon concerts.

The festival will also be showcasing upcoming talent and encouraging school musicians to join them on stage.

**Enthralling Dance Displays** Swanage Folk Festival is one of the country’s biggest gatherings of Dance sides. The Morris Dancers captivate audiences with their energetic and colourful displays. Dance groups come from as far afield as Barnsley.

**Sensational Music Performances** Folk artists from local and international stages will grace the festival with exceptional performances, ensuring a weekend filled with musical magic.

**Free entry**: The whole family can enjoy an afternoon at the festival without having to spend money. The afternoon concerts on the main field, children’s entertainers, craft fair and dance displays around the town are all free to enjoy.

** Craft Fair** Over sixty stalls, run by local traders, sell a wonderful variety of goods from around the world. Jackets and coats from Nepal and Venezuela, trousers and shirts from India, silver and gemstone jewellery from all across the globe.

Jon Baker, Committee Chair, expressed his excitement for this year’s Swanage Folk Festival, “The festival is a celebration of traditional and modern folk music and dance. Enthusiastic teenagers dance alongside older more traditional dance sides, and the music varies from modern folk rock through foot-stomping jigs and soul-stirring traditional ballads. Everyone can immerse themselves in the beauty of music and dance while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of our beloved town.”

The Swanage Folk Festival is a non-profit organisation made possible by the dedication and support of volunteers, local businesses, sponsors, and the entire community, whose passion and commitment help keep this cherished tradition alive year after year.
